Worcester at wet Warwick
By Georgie Ballard
Women’s 1s travelled to a wet Warwick yesterday, whilst it dried up for the game the result did not reflect the possession Worcester had. Although Worcester started on the back foot thanks to Warwick’s quick play and them being use to the bouncy pitch and an umpire with a bee in her bonnet which lead to an early goal conceded. Worcester dug deep and played some brilliant balls picking apart the Warwick team, coming unstuck in the last quarter of the pitch. Warwick almost doubled their lead, despite Worcester’s protests of the first shot being too high, their umpire wasn’t going to back down until Inge went across and agreed with our annoyances. With Holly Smith taken out by some interesting tackling, toward the end of the first half, Worcester knew the second half they would have to keep calm. The second half Worcester were under pressure early on however managed to get some rhythm and continued to pressure the Warwick defence with no luck. A series of short corner for Warwick meant they doubled their lead and although Worcester continued to pressure we just couldn’t find the back of the net.
Final score 2-0 to Warwick.
Thank you to Ingeborg Bevers for coming across to umpire for us, we appreciate it.
