Worcester 6s get back to back win
By Steve Neal
Another 3 point for Worcester 6s
Worcester 6s heading to the Old Silhillians ground for a 16:00 start on a wet windy (Storm Brian) afternoon.
To start with, it was noticed that Terry Duffy had more space today because the Chairman wasn’t around to tell the opposition where he was ;-)
The game started with 6s aware that the Adonis and the mighty 7s had won 7-1, so it was important to keep a clean sheet & see what we could do, so Worcester 6s needed to work as a team to make it difficult for Old Sils to move the ball.
After about 10 minutes Worcester were awarded a short corner which Adam Ball converted to start the scoring.
The second came from another Short corner, in a manoeuvre where Terry Duffy sweetly smacked the ball into the lower left corner.
Worcester were lucky with the third goal where SIMON GRIFFITHS dribbled the ball, tried to pass to Terry Duffy, but a young Old Sils defender deflected the ball in the net.
To finish off the first half, Adam Ball jinked the ball across the goal and it was slotted in by an in form Niall O’Kane.
The second half started with continued rain and heavy wind, but for this half Worcester were now playing into the wind.
Worcester, despite having a handy lead were still playing professionally. Dominic Hole and Ryan Russell were superb in defence commanding their positions. The twins Niall and Dylan O’Kane having their first game for the 6s were on the 2 wings and helped with some sublime moves with the ball going from the centre of the pitch out wide and then back.
With Worcester keeping Old Sils in their own half, it wasn’t long before Dylan O’Kane drove in the D had a shot which went past the keeper and was deflected on by Terry Duffy.
Terry Duffy and Niall O’Kane switched positions. Simon found Terry Duffy on the right who beat the sweeper and past back to the P spot for Andy Hares to put it in the net.
Old Sils did manage to make a break towards the end of the second half. Their forward got into the Worcester D and took a great shot at goal, which Mark Coppenhall magnificently deflected round the post, keeping a clean sheet,
The last goal came after Andy Hares passed to Terry Duffy who had a shot on goal which was saved, but Terry was able to recover and slot the ball in on the rebound.
It must be pointed out that Terry scored 3 great goals but also had a similar number of howlers, which to be fair to Terry was because he had a head cold. ?
So, the game ended in the dark with a 7-0 win to the Worcester 6s. Next week, the mighty Worcester 7s!!
