Worcester 6s end as losers in inter-club league game
Thanks to Adrian Shipley for this report:-
The Mighty 7's beat the 6's 4-2, in a well-deserved win at The University of Worcester this afternoon. The Severners were the stronger team, both on the pitch and on paper and dominated possession and chances throughout the match. 2-0 up at half time, the 7's could afford to play passing, expansive hockey, showing the benefit of having experienced players.
A breakaway goal by new boy Mike, a quality addition to the 6's midfield from Hereford Hockey Club, opened the door ever so slightly, the goal following a lengthy spell of 7's possession, but they scored again soon after to keep their two goal lead. A further goal from the Severners, followed by a consolation tap-in on the far post following a mis-shot from Terry meant the final score of 4-2 to Tom's boys was about right on the day.
A superb point-blank save from Mark Coppenhall was one of the highlights of the second half, which was warmly applauded by both teams.
Defensively Ryan and Dom continue to learn and had solid games. We missed Adam Ball's tenacity in midfield today and the 6's oldest strike force for years just wasn't able to counteract the Severners highly competent defence, especially without the luxury of a substitute.
Still, the second half was a 2-2 draw, so the 6's finished the stronger.
