Pippins extend their run of good form playing attractive hockey against gritty opposition (If anyone can, Rickman can!!).

On a blustery autumnal afternoon the Pippins knew (because of a lack of substitutes) they had to produce a strong team effort if they wished to maintain their excellent run of form. Luckily they approached the match with the right attitude and endeavour; quickly establishing superiority by moving the ball into their opponents “D” before Dan Rickman clinically sent a powerful shot into the roof of the net.

After this the majority of play was in the Bromsgrove half as the Pippins moved the ball around with relative comfort. However their attempts to create a goal-scoring opportunity were constantly frustrated by the excellent positional play and determined tackling of the Bromsgrove girls playing in defence.

Opportunities, especially from our right wing were being created but frustratingly not taken. Tom Scotson was putting himself in marvellous positions to capitalise on crosses from Ethan McDonald-Smith and others; on another day he would have scored a hat-trick at least but today his shots missed their target by the narrowest of margins.

Dan Rickman dispelled fears that we would finish the half with only a single goal to show for our efforts, by calmly converting a penalty corner won by excellent work from Luke Bowerman.

The second half was a more even contest in the middle half of the pitch. Alastair Borwell-Fox, Ben Lawrence and Matthew Boulton were disciplined in defence, ready to get “stuck in” and win the ball back. Alex Byng and Stuart Boocock worked hard to provide an outlet ball, unfortunately this resulted in Stuart receiving a nasty cut above his eye from a wayward stick.

Further pressure from the Pippins saw Luke Bowerman calmly shooting into the bottom corner with a well-aimed shot and then Dan Rickman completing his hat-trick after another barnstorming run and shot.

Another strong performance from the Pippins.
