Long journey ends in disappointment

Worcester travelled to the fixture with hope of turning around their run of poor results. Worcester were slow to settle and Leek soon found their way through and opened up the scoring, after a mistake that left Leek one on one with the keeper. Worcester continued to struggle to keep possession and settle into their game and were fortunate not to find themselves further behind. As Worcester began to settle a little, they started to put pressure on Leek with a series of good balls into the circle from Jo Walker and Elaine Sheppard that unfortunately didn't get the touch on to go past the keeper. Leek continued to put pressure on Worcester on the counter attack and were 2-0 up before the break. Worcester came out in the second half to change the game and get on the scoreboard, however Leek quickly made themselves 3-0 up. Worcester began to take the initiative and with creative play by Julie Harwood, Sarah Baggs, Jo Walker and many others began to unsettle the Leek defence. Leek did have a few counterattacks, one of which was fruitful in a further goal to lead 4-0. Worcester saved their best play for the final quarter of the game, with some great attacking play by player of the match Mollie Parsons, and were unlucky not to score despite some great chances by Libby Wycherley, Clare Hayes and Jo Walker. With a break next weekend, Worcester look forward to rebuilding and entertaining Tamworth at home on 8th November.
