Stratford 3 v 1 Worcester Worcester Mens 2nd XI started their 2014/15 West Midlands Premier division campaign with a forgettable performance, falling 3-1 to local rivals Stratford. Despite Worcester dominating the opening exchanges, the hosts took the lead after a series of dubious short corners were awarded. This allowed Stratford to race to an early 2-0 lead somewhat against the run of play. Despite the attack talent available to Worcester, their heads dropped and they seemed psychologically beaten well into the first half. At half time, Worcester were able reconsolidate and take a fresh approach to game and they soon got their reward when Man of the Match Jack Townsend raced down the right flank, got the by-line and squared an inch perfect pass to the in-form Jeremy Drake to claim his 3rd goal in 2 games. Sensing an equaliser, Worcester pressed and pressed and pressed with Sam Wicket, Matt Hooper and Dom Sullivan all testing the home keeper. But as Worcester’s desperation grew, they were caught on the counter attack and Stratford sealed the win with a late goal to break Worcester’s hearts.
