Edgbaston VS Worcester 2nds
Result 1 – 2
Worcester were looking to keep their excellent form going and travelled to Edgbaston for their 2nd league game of the season.
From the first whistle Edgbaston started the faster and had a 5 minute spell in the Worcester half but Worcs were able to soak up the attack and the turn the ball over, Worcester then applied pressure and dominated the play with the odd spell when Edgbaston borrowed the ball for a few seconds at a time. Worcester were relentless with the work rate and hunted in packs of 2 and 3 without the ball but attacked in 5s and 6s when in possession to create lots of opportunities. This pressure paid off when Brace and Hooper linked up to set Joe Sullivan free to crash in a well hit reverse which was flying into the bottom corner but for Henry Jeffs to steal the goal with a deft deflection.
The second half continued in much the same way with some desperate defending from Edgbaston, Worcester got a short corner and with a planned short corner routine Watling managed to pick up the loose injection and hit another reverse which fell to Jeff Drake for his 3rd goal in 2 games and another simple tap in. With the visitors in charge and enjoying their hockey with neat play from, Sam Glass, Ollie Ranscombe and Ben Martin Worcester relaxed a little too much and let Edge back in with a rare dip in concentration. With only 5 mins left of the game Worcester raised their level and saw out the win and 3 points.
