Half term came and half term went, those of us in the 6's who take hockey seriously did not take a weekend off. We went into battle (older and possibly wiser, and a little slower) against a side who beat us 9 - 4 at their place. We started calmly and assured, within 5 minutes it was short corner for us, Terry Duffy
injected, Phil Thomas
received, skipped past the number 1 runner and flicked it into the corner of the net (1 - 0).
We continued to frustrate the opposition, but they worked some space for their prolific striker and he reverse stick flicked a shot past George Pawlson in Goal (1 - 1). A minor setback.
Another short corner for us, the same routine and Phil Thomas
flicks it into the other corner (2 - 1).
Half time came and we had a robust discussion with many different opinions. We continued to make the opposition think they were on top, whilst repelling attack after attack.
Nick Fielden needed bigger pockets as he marked their most dangerous striker out of the game.
The two G's then stepped up to help seal the game. Graham the striker and George the keeper, one scored and the other saved a deflected shot in the last minute of the game.
Game won, a quick retreat to the Oak Apple to watch Scotland V England, with memories of an important win against a good Hampton side!
