Worcester get confident win against strong Bromsgrove
By Steve Neal
Sublime goals in exciting match
It was a cool, raining but bright March Saturday afternoon for Worcester 6s game at Nunnery Wood v Bromsgrove 4.
There have been a few un-available players along with Mark Coppenhall, Dominic Hole and Jacob Chakko-George helping other teams, so with a few new players it was welcome to Ben Gough, Alex Gough, Stephen Preater, Gerry Ogle and Azzie Molla.
The game started with Azzie Molla starting confidently at Holding Mid, while we waited a few minutes for Tom Howard to arrive.
Bromsgrove began briskly with a few telling attacks, but these were held by Garth Davis in goal and the rearranged defence of Tim Martin, Steve Neal, Terry Duffy and Adrian Shipley who was a rotating defender at the start of the game.
Worcester started to string some passes together, cracks started to appear in the Bromsgrove defence. The central midfield of Connor Winkworth and Tom Howard were sensational breaking down attacks and starting new Worcester offensives. They were assisted by a lot movement from John Simpson and Stephen Preater on the left mid and Ben Gough and brother Alex Gough on the right mid.
There was a lot of hard work Graham Okeeffe and Gerry Ogle who were making themselves felt around the Bromsgrove goal, after about 20 minutes Graham Okeeffe slotted in a welcome goal, followed by another a few minutes later.
Half time was 2-0. Captain Steve Neal was concerned that the team should maintain the momentum and not let Bromsgrove back in the game.
Bromsgrove didn't want to play to the plan and kept trying to break through, but the Worcester team man-for-man marked the opposition out of the game, during one offensive with a string of great passes Tom Howard slotted in a Worcester 3rd goal.
A few minutes later Adrian Shipley drive through the Bromsgrove defence and made the score 4-0.
A final 5th goal was probable the best of the game, again there were some great moves with Ben Gough making a fantastic sprint to the goal to slide in the final goal.
Well done to everyone for a welcome win again a competent Bromsgrove side.
