Worcester Potters hosted Hampton in Arden Badgers on Saturday 29th of November at Nunnery Wood. A strong Worcester side started well, but they were repeatedly held at bay by the three Hampton adults. Unfortunately a break by Hampton saw them hit the ball in the Worcester d only for it to deflect off a Worcester foot and into the Worcester goal. Worcester fought well to get back on top with Max Butterfield carrying the ball into the Hampton half repeatedly until, nearing the adults Max put in a fine pass in to Imogen Gilgrass who struck the ball beautifully to beat the Hampton keeper. Hampton stepped up the pace at this, with their adult midfielder repeatedly applying pressure to the Worcester defence who, led by William Randall, continued to keep them at bay. Late in the half William, Max and Connor Winkworth combined to move the ball up the pitch to Milly Short who hit a hard shot towards the Hampton goal where Olivia Watts was waiting to tap it in, leaving the score 2 – 1 to Worcester at the close of the half. The second half again saw Hamptons adult midfielder pushing hard into the Worcester half and it wasn’t long before Hampton were able to level the score with a scramble in the d seeing the ball pushed past Mason Lloyd, the Worcester keeper. Worcester worked hard and looked the more threatening of the teams from then on and shortly afterwards were awarded a short corner for a Hampton foot in their own d. Max hit the ball straight to Will who wasted no time at all to hit the hardest of balls into the bottom corner of the Hampton goal. Both teams continued to fight as the mist descended at the end of the game but neither were able to get a clean shot in. A good result for Worcester, against a difficult opposition, with all players involved in the game and playing their part. Great defence throughout the game from Ben Lawrence, Hope Dickson and Jemima Moss, hard work in the midfield by Ethan Mcdonald-Smith, Milly Short and Daniel Rickman and some lovely play from the attack of Olivia Watts and Imogen Gilgrass. Man of the Match jointly shared by Will Randall and Imogen Gilgrass for their hard work throughout the match and fantastic goals.
