To start the New Year with a bang the Badger organising team were able to select 6 teams of youngsters to play at RGS The Grange. The girls attending had ages ranging from the youngest Heini Hughes at 11 years and the eldest Ella Griffiths at 14. The youngest boy was Lucas Denton (GK) at 11 years old and the eldest Mason Lloyd who was 15. The first match comprised of the Pippins and Potters with 8 boys being considered for promotion to the senior league teams. The match was attended by 3 senior members to assess those being considered for promotion. The Pippins and Potters teams were of equal ability and as was anticipated lots of good flowing hockey was played and resulted in a 4-4 draw. The Pippins opened the scoring through Max Butterfield followed by a second form Tristan Hubbard in open play. However the Potters managed to reduce the deficit with a super strike from Jamie Williams. In the 2nd half the Potters dominated for a while and 3 goals were scored by Connor Winkworth, Rees Bonham and Will Wickett which took them to a 4-2 lead. The senior player came off the pitch for the Potters and then the Pippins picked up the challenge to attack and were rewarded by an individual goal by William Hood and then Lottie Atkinson on hand in front of goal to tap in for the equaliser. A fair result and good performances all round.
