Worcester Potters v Evesham 24 March 2018 (home)
By Mary Travers
Potters 5-2 triumph over Evesham
Worcester set a fast pace from the outset and were unlucky not to convert chances into goals in the first quarter but were finally rewarded when Jack neatly turned in a sizzling cross from the right to put us 1-0 up. Shortly afterwards Charlie made it 2-0 with an unstoppable shot from the edge of the circle following a short corner. This seemed to spur Evesham into action and they snatched two goals in quick succession to go into the half time break on level terms. The second half was more closely contested to start with but Evesham turned the ball into their own net from a shot from Jack, and that signalled a turning point with Worcester relentlessly threatening the Evesham goal. Youngsters Harry and Jamie were outstanding in making runs to set up attacks through the middle of the field and Charlie caused havoc in the Evesham midfield and defence with his tireless attacking play on the right flank. With Ollie heaping further pressure on the visitors, Jack’s pinpoint finishing converted two more excellent crosses into goals. Evesham had no response, with Worcester’s defence and the rest of the midfielders (Martha in goal, Annabelle, Cerys, Rosie, Daisy, Millie and Isabelle, and able leadership from Jacob at sweeper), proving more than capable of holding the line. Overall this was a great team performance and an impressive finish to the main part of the season which has seen the team’s hockey improve week on week. Well done to all.
