Women’s 1s entertained Lansdown 2s yesterday in the first of their friendlies.

Worcester started the brighter putting Lansdown constantly under pressure and having very few attacks against them. Eventually we found a way through when Lucy Wadley (Liz Hunt) collected a loose ball and drove into the D before calmly slotting the ball away on her debut for the 1s. We eventually doubled our lead in the first half when Lucy Merrett slotted the ball in from a great fun down the left and along the line by Lyndsey Beynon.
Few more chances came in the first half including a lob of the keeper by Helen (H) Davenport that was disallowed.
Second half we built on the first half and added a third through H after a fine string of passes started from the back and moved through Emma Hughes (Twiggy) and Lucy Merrett before H calmly put the ball away.
H soon added a fourth by rounding the keeper and calmly slotting it away.
A fifth soon followed after a quick free hit taken by Helen Barnes, was given to Katie Wilson who played the ball back to Helen who drove in the D and hit the ball into the top left.
A sixth was added from a short corner where the initial shot was blocked before Ava Thornley (Claire Jones) dug it out from beneath the keeper to pass it to H, who then passed it onto Twiggy to shoot and score (neither of Twiggy’s girls who were watching saw her goal much to her disappointment!).
The seventh came before the end after the ball had been worked down the right and Lucy Merrett had worked the ball along the baseline pulling the ball back for the Lansdown defending to deflect it in the goal whilst under pressure from Emma Gardner.
Well played by the entire team in the 7-0 win including those not mentioned above: Ailsa Richardson, Rhiannon Jones, Rachel Humphries, Becca Bramhall, Jess Waddington, Julie Harwood and Jaime Lewis, who watched the entire game from goal as she never touched the ball!
Next week we play Gloucester 3s in a friendly at 12pm at Nunnery.
