It was a sunny and temperate Saturday afternoon at the Worcester University pitch.
The game started confidently with a solid 11 player team including a couple of first timers and players carrying injuries...
In goal we had the ever enthusiastic Dimitri Pribojac commanding the goal and making great saves during the game, supported in defence by Duncan Westbury, with a first game after his fall from a plum tree in August, James Hurley playing Centre Mid for the first time, Brian Jordan playing in his first league game and Steve Neal sweeping.
In midfield Dylan O'Kane and Niall O'Kane ran their socks off up and down the wings.
The Midfield Generals were Connor Winkworth assisted by Conor McHeffey, both showing great skills and commitment.
In attack was Nick Ruddick playing his first game for the 6s and Andy Griffin struggling with failing limbs having played for the Vets during the previous week!
The Worcester side started with solid defending, getting used to to the fluid moving hockey being played by the opposition, but during one attack, Edgbaston pushed through the Worcester defence and got an early goal.
Both sides were moving the ball well, but it was Edgbaston who once again made a telling break and sneaked another goal in.
There were a couple of robustly defended short corners, during one of which Brian Jordan made a great goal line clearance.
So at Half time 0-2. Unfortunately, after Half time, Edgbaston slotted in a quick 3rd goal.
Despite the goal deficit, the team felt that the situation had stabilized and Worcester started to look like a more organised unit.
For the next 20 minutes Worcester were dominant
During a fine manoeuvre from midfield round Right Mid, through the Edgbaston defence, the ball went to a waiting Andy Griffin who slotted in a very welcome goal!
Worcester remained dominant, but Edgbaston managed to get a Penalty after a Short Corner Goal line foot save.
Edgbaston took the penalty well, with Dimitri going the right way and getting really close to the ball and almost saving it, but the ball sneaked in to the bottom corner.
So the final score was 1-4. But, this was a competent performance by a team that is working hard and with great commitment.
Looking forward to top of the league Stourport next week!
