The Men's 6's went our today with their first game under the new captaincy of Stephen Preater and the first problem was who the Men's 7's were going to give us to even up the numbers at 10a side. The 6's dominated the early skirmishes but failed to score, inject short corners, etc. The 7's took advantage of this early tardiness and scored against the run of play. This provoked the 6's to try to be more clinical and we eventually scored from a broken down short corner by Andy Griffin.
Half time came at 1 - 1 and the half time team talk concentrated on where we let ourselves down and what we needed to do to improve. The team heeded the talk and continued to dominate (with the odd lapse in concentration) and soon we took the lead. The 6's then went 3 - 1 up, the 2nd and 3rd goals came from Ollie Johns and Andy Hares (but not sure in which order).
The 7's then scored against the run of play, which stirred the 6's into another surge of action, with Ollie Johns scoring the goal of the game, driving into the circle, jinking past a couple of players before drawing Garth Davis and flicking the ball into his chest. The rebound came back at him above head height, but that did not stop him volleying the ball back past Garth take the score to 4 - 2.
A few minutes later and Andy Griffin finished off a fine flowing build up between the centre midfield duet of Ollie Johns and our new Captain (Stephen Preater) to make the final score 5 - 2 to the 6's.
