The Pippins travelled to Stourport and having agreed that adults were not necessary on the pitch went ahead and put in a solid team performance. After 15 minutes it had only been one way traffic with Stourport dominant but unable to create chances due to some committed defending by Worcester defence - Millie Moseley, Abby Trow, Grace Miller, Jamie Lawrence, Andrew Bowkett.
Eventually Stourport's pressure paid off taking the lead, which only ignited the Worcester spirit. Fin Goodman and Ava Thornley began to win more ball in midfield and linked well with Arthur Quinn and Zac Goodman in attack. Caitlin Davis moving stealthily into attack from her centre midfiled position, levelled the score with a powerful slapshot - her first goal for Worcester, congratulations! The, 5 minutes later Anna Hadley, loitering with intent, found space in the Stourport D and put Worcester ahead with a well taken strike which found the bottom corner of the goal.
As the game approached half time Stourport levelled once more from a scrambled short corner, which fell nicely to a player on the right of the D.
In the second half Worcester were dominant for the first 15 minutes but failed to capitalise from 7 penalty corners. With both teams tiring, the game narrowed into the middle of the pitch where Stourport’s ‘bigger kids’ were able to influence most.
Despite some heroics in the Worcester goal by Ava Crompton, Stourport went on to score twice more to seal a 4-2 win. Sausage chips and beans was needed to put a smile back on some glum faces. The team will be pleased to know that Popcorn (the Hadley cat) survived the evening unscathed ! MOM was awarded to Ava Thornley for incredible effort in midfield. Well played everyone.
