Great hockey DNA in the Lawrence family

Pippins deservedly achieved their first win of the season in a 3-1 friendly against Kingswinford. It was a windy and showery affair, however the faithful parents eager to support their minions, huddled together in the dugouts and tried their hardest to look enthused.

Tom Cosh put the Pippins ahead from a penalty corner, injecting the ball and then poaching in front of the goalkeeper who was virtually immobilised by the size of his kit. Five minutes later Jamie Lawrence got in on the action, slotting home Worcester’s second on the back post after Arthur Quinn had driven the ball along the right hand baseline before making a pinpoint cross. Jamie’s first goal for Worcester and his celebratory sprint back to the half way line, with a beaming smile on his face, was a real ‘champagne moment’

Kingswinford threatened the Worcester goal several times in the first half with two chances going narrowly wide. Lucy Garrard was on fine form, ensuring a clean sheet was kept to half time - 2:0.

Second half started brightly with fine passing between Andrew Bowkett, Polly Fisher-Edwards, Anna Hadley & Zac Goodman. Gradually Worcester began to dominate the midfield. Tom Cosh was throwing himself into tackles and lead the counter attacks well, distributing the ball wide. Lucy made a series of saves and continued to frustrate. Jack Barnes then underpinned a great midfield performance by grabbing Worcester’s third, winning the ball on the attacking 23m line before driving into the D a finding the bottom corner of the goal.

Kingswinford continued to battle and were rewarded with a goal 5 minutes from full time. A penalty corner which was struck with some venom ensuring they didn’t go home empty handed.

Special mention to Joe Jackman who turned out for Kingswinford playing really well and twice coming close to scoring - the ball going narrowly wide on both occasions indicated Joe knew which side he was really on ? good lad !
3:1 the final score.

Despite Tom Cosh’s goal and a fine defensive contribution, I am awarding MOM to Polly Fisher-Edwards who worked really hard all game, tackling well against some strong lads and linking the Worcester defence with the wide attackers. Polly is improving week by week and visibly growing in confidence. Her best performance so far. Well done !
