Hockey centre and pitch construction
Worcester International Hockey Centre 4 of 4

4. Hockey centre and pitch construction

Pitches
The grounds consist of two state of the art, international standard, water based astroturf pitches (EH Category 1 pitches for national and international competition, each measuring 55m x 91.4m with 4m run off), a pavilion, and on site car parking. The pitches are flood lit in line with FIH standards to a level of 500 Lux. There are six flood light masts per pitch to prevent glare and avoid disturbing shadows for the goal-keeper. The pitches are now fully operational.

Pavilion
The pavilion facilities include 8 changing rooms, officials changing rooms, club room with kitchen, reception and meet and greet area, and are a modular design such that a club house can be built at a future date. Restrictions brought about by COVID legislation have delayed the completion of the project but we hope to finish the pavilion as soon as possible, hopefully by March 2023

Environmental considerations
As well as having the highest quality of surface on which to play hockey, the centre is designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible including
• Ground source heat pump
• The showers are fitted with heat exchanger technology to use the heat of the water back into the pavilion.
• The pavilion is fitted with solar panels.
• The floodlights use the latest LED technology which ensures that all lighting is intensely focused and there is minimal light spillage when they are in use.
• The pitches are water based and the water tanks have the latest water recycling technology to reduce the amount of water being used.
• The car park has 3 electric car recharging points.
In addition to being used by WHC and RGS, the centre is available for use by local schools, the University of Worcester, other higher education establishments, other clubs, community groups, national and international teams
